Telescopic Column For X-Ray Apparatus

US Patent:
3986697, Oct 19, 1976
Filed:
Nov 21, 1973
Appl. No.:
5/418128
Inventors:
William H. Amor - Auburn Township OH
Robert J. Steffek - Wickliffe OH
Assignee:
Picker Corporation - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
A61B 1900
US Classification:
248333
Abstract:
An X-ray apparatus includes a telescopic column support with concentrically positioned tubular sections nested one within another. Each of the sections except its innermost section has three guide bars triangularly spaced on the inner surface. Each section except the outermost section has rollers on its outer surface cooperating with the adjacent guide bars of the surrounding section. The guide bars cooperate with the rollers in a generally circumferential direction rather than radially of the tubular members. Mounting plugs held in apertures of the telescopic sections by an interference fit mount the guide bars and rollers. The plugs are initially insertable into the apertures with a clearance fit, when an appropriate temperature differential is established between the plugs and sections. A pulley wheel outside a fixed column section and carried by the first movable section supports a loop of control and power cables to take up and release the cables relative to a fixed location on a subsequent section, and at a rate equal to the change in length of the column, thereby avoiding slack in the cable during extension and retraction of the column.

Method And Apparatus For Mounting Gradient Tube To Diagnostic Imaging Device

US Patent:
6208141, Mar 27, 2001
Filed:
Jun 11, 1998
Appl. No.:

Inventors:
William H. Amor - Chagrin Falls OH
Jerome S. Alden - Aurora OH
Michael A. Morich - Mentor OH
James L. Gruden - Kirtland Hills OH
Assignee:
Picker International, Inc. - Highland Heights OH
International Classification:
G01R33/20
7
G01V3/00
US Classification:
324318
Abstract:
A diagnostic imaging apparatus such as a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) device includes a vacuum vessel (24) having a central helium reservoir (16) in which superconducting magnetic coil windings (10) are maintained at a superconducting temperature. The vacuum vessel defines a bore (12) within which a gradient tube assembly (30) and an RF coil (32) are received. The gradient tube assembly includes an integral tongue (66) extending from a patient end (48) thereof. A first constraint (70) retrains the gradient tube assembly in a "push-pull" arrangement in both directions along the z-axis. The constraint (70) is mounted to a patient-end of the vessel (24) at a lowermost (i. e. , six o'clock) position. The constraint includes vibration isolators (94) interposed between the tongue and a saddle mount (72) to reduce vibration transmission from the gradient tube assembly to the vessel. A second constraint (104) and a third constraint (106) are positioned at the twelve-o'clock positions at the patient-end and service-end, respectively of the vessel.

Combined Self Shielded Gradient Coil And Shimset

US Patent:
5349297, Sep 20, 1994
Filed:
Jun 21, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/080566
Inventors:
Gordon D. DeMeester - Wickliffe OH
Michael A. Morich - Mentor OH
William H. Amor - Chagrin Falls OH
Assignee:
Picker International Inc. - Highland Hts. OH
International Classification:
G01R 3320
US Classification:
324318
Abstract:
The magnetic field assembly of a magnetic resonance imaging device includes an annular superconducting magnet (10) which is mounted within a toroidal vacuum vessel (24). A cylindrical member (26) defines a central bore (12) through which the superconducting magnets generate a uniform, static magnetic field. A cylindrical, dielectric former (46) is mounted in the bore displaced by an annular gap (58) from the cylindrical member. A shimset (60) for shimming the uniformity of the magnetic field is mounted in the gap (58). A radio frequency coil (32) is mounted within the cylindrical member defining a patient receiving examination region. An RF shield (34) is mounted around the exterior peripheral surface of the former. Primary gradient coils (50, 52, 54) are mounted around and potted to the exterior of the dielectric former around the RF shield. Gradient shield or secondary coils (74, 76, 78) are potted around an exterior of the cylindrical member within the vacuum chamber.

X-Ray Table With Braced Body

US Patent:
4197464, Apr 8, 1980
Filed:
Nov 29, 1977
Appl. No.:
5/855691
Inventors:
William H. Amor - Chagrin Falls OH
Assignee:
Picker Corporation - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
G01N 2100
G01N 2300
US Classification:
250439R
Abstract:
An X-ray table comprising a body having end, front and rear side members formed of inside and outside skin members having parts thereof spaced from one another and connected together by reinforcing members welded to the skin members and a method of making such a table. According to the method the side members are constructed as subassemblies with the inside and outside skin members of the end and front sides merely welded at their upper edges. Subsequently the vertical side members of the table body are assembled in a fixture without stress in the sheet metal parts. The outside members are then welded together at the junctures thereof. Finally the inside skin members of the end side members are welded to the reinforcing members previously welded to the end outside skin members and the front inside skin members is welded to the reinforcing members.

Brake Method And Apparatus

US Patent:
4736075, Apr 5, 1988
Filed:
Jan 20, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/004648
Inventors:
William H. Amor - Chagrin Falls OH
Robert E. Levar - Willoughby OH
Assignee:
Picker International Inc. - Highland Heights OH
International Classification:
F16D 6518
US Classification:
