A valve control apparatus for generating an anticipatory output response for controlling a fluid flow in a fluid flow line includes a valve provided inside the fluid flow line, at least one sensor for providing at least one input signal, the at least one input signal responsive to properties of the fluid flow in advance of the valve, and a letdown back-pressure controller receiving the at least one input signal and providing a tunable output signal for selectively opening and closing the valve to vary flow in the flow line responsive to the at least one input signal. A method for controlling fluid flow through a valve in a fluid flow line with an anticipatory output response according to the invention comprising the steps of measuring fluid flow properties in the fluid flow line in advance of the valve, providing at least one input signal responsive to properties of the fluid flow to a letdown back-pressure controller, processing the at least one input signal by the letdown back-pressure controller, generating a tunable output signal from the letdown back-pressure controller for selectively opening and closing the valve to vary flow in the flow line responsive to the at least one input signal, and tuning the output signal from the letdown back-pressure controller.

A T connection mouthpiece comprised of a first tubular member with open ends and internal, a tubular member with a smaller diameter having closed ends to define an air chamber. Proximate to the closed end of the air chamber and distal to the mouthpiece is an aperture. A second tubular conduit opens into the first tubular member to be attached to a nebulizer. On the external surface of the T connection mouthpiece and contiguous with the air chamber, is adhered a thin film of polyvinylidene flouride. When the patient inhales through the T connection, airflow is directed to the aperture to generate a fundamental tone, the acoustical energy is converted to electrical energy by the polyvinylidene flouride film. The electrical signal is received and processed by the electronic circuitry which energizes a solenoid valve normally closed to open and to allow for pressurized gas flow to activate the nebulizer. The aerosol is delivered synchronously during the inspiratory phase of the respiratory cycle.

A device for entraining a liquid into a carrier gas comprises a hollow cylindrical body having an inlet chamber separated from the interior of the body by a partition. A first nozzle and second nozzle are each supported in the partition and interconnect the inlet chamber and the body interior. A passageway connects a reservoir to the first nozzle so that a first stream of carrier gas flowing through the first nozzle aspirates a liquid within the reservoir and entrains the liquid therein. A second stream of carrier gas flows through the second nozzle and mixes with the first steam in the interior of the body, thereby forming a resultant carrier gas mixture that is lower in liquid concentration than obtainable by having the first nozzle alone. An air inlet opening with an adjustable cover communicates between the interior of the body and its exterior. The air inlet opening is located adjacent the discharge ends of the nozzles to draw air into the resultant carrier gas mixture to dilute the concentration of carrier gas.

A subatmospheric pressure is created within the minimal space between the liquid conduit, and gas nozzle. The liquid is aspirated from the minimal space between the internal component and the internal walls of the liquid reservoir, to the minimal space between the liquid conduit, and gas nozzle and out the liquid orifice. A removable threaded cap with an aerosol outlet on the cylindrical housing, provides a seal between the inner surface of the cap, and the region of the minimal space between the internal component, and the internal walls of the liquid reservoir.

There is disclosed a device adapted to accurately deliver a selected concentration of a primary gas in a diluent gas, such as ambient air. The device of the invention includes a hollow diluter body having generally opposed ports for the ingress of a primary stream of gas and the egress of a dilution stream of gas. The interior of the body defines a dilution chamber and a vent chamber, both of which are open to the egress port. The top wall of the body is provided with a port for communication between the dilution chamber and the exterior of the body. A vent port in the housing provides communication between the vent chamber and the exterior of the device. Pressure sensitive sealing means normally closes the vent chamber to prevent communication between the chamber and the exterior of the device and is operative responsive to pressure in the vent chamber to open and allow communication between the vent chamber and the exterior of the device through the vent port.
