Abstract:
An apparatus for tacking a multi-lumen tubular assembly together comprises a laser, an optical member and a placement tray for retaining the tubular assembly. A portion of the optical member defines a window that is substantially transparent to laser energy emitted from the laser. The window has a substantially concave shaped surface. The placement tray and the window surface define a processing area for positioning at least a portion of the tubular assembly. The processing area receives the laser energy that is emitted from the laser and passed through the window of the optical member. The tubular assembly is defined by an outer tubular member disposed about at least a portion of at least one inner tubular member. The laser energy transmitted into the processing area is transmitted substantially through the outer tubular member and is substantially absorbed by at least one region of the least one inner tubular member.

Hermetic Weld For A Thin Film Electrochemical Cell Activated With A Solid Electrolyte And Housed In A Ceramic Casing

US Patent:
2020018, Jun 11, 2020
Filed:
Feb 12, 2020
Appl. No.:
16/788679
Inventors:
- Clarence NY, US
Keith W. Seitz - Clarence Center NY, US
Xiaohong Tang - Williamsville NY, US
Todd C. Sutay - Warsaw NY, US
Brian P. Hohl - Clarence NY, US
Holly Noelle Moschiano - Elma NY, US

Sourabh Biswas - Williamsville NY, US
Gary Freitag - East Aurora NY, US
David Dianetti - Lancaster NY, US
Ho-Chul Yun - East Amherst NY, US
Thomas Marzano - East Amherst NY, US
International Classification:
H01M 2/02
H01M 2/04
H01M 2/06
H01M 10/0525
H01M 4/131
Abstract:
A miniature electrochemical cell having a total volume that is less than 0.5 cc is described. The cell casing is formed by joining two ceramic casing halves together. One or both casing halves are machined from ceramic to provide a recess that is sized and shaped to contain the electrode assembly. The opposite polarity terminals are metal feedthroughs, such as of gold, and are formed by brazing gold into openings machined into one or both of ceramic casing halves. A thin film metallization, such as of titanium, contacts an edge periphery of each ceramic casing half. The first ceramic casing half is moved into registry with the second ceramic casing half so that the first and second ring-shaped metallizations contact each other. Then, a laser welds through one of the casing halves being a substantially transparent ceramic, for example sapphire, to braze the first and second ring-shaped metallizations to each other to thereby join the first and second casing halves together to form a casing housing the electrode assembly. A solid electrolyte (LiPON) activates the electrode assembly.

Methods Of Making Medical Devices

US Patent:

Abstract:
Methods of making medical devices are disclosed. In some embodiments, a method for welding together two components is described. The two components are non-coaxial and contact one another. A fixture holds the two components in a desired configuration. Electromagnetic radiation is directed at an area where the two components are in contact. The radiation causes the two portions to fuse together. The fixture has an open area or a transmissive material in the path of the electromagnetic radiation so that at least a portion of the radiation impinged up on the two components.

Abstract:
Medical device balloons are formed from a tubular parison by a process or apparatus which establishes a controlled location (initiation zone) on the parison where radial expansion is initiated. Initiation within the initiation zone is achieved by heating the parison in that location to a higher temperature than the remainder of the parison for at least a portion of the blowing time. A variety of apparatus configurations are provided, some of which allow for the size and location of the initiation zone to be readily reconfigured. Balloons can also be modified, post-blowing, using heating apparatus and methods described.
