Voice/Fax Digitizing Rate Negotiation For Switched Connection In A Network Environment

US Patent:
5511074, Apr 23, 1996
Filed:
Mar 9, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/209544

International Classification:
H04B 166
H04J 322
H04L 2700
US Classification:
370 84
Abstract:
A calling station sends to a called station a call request package including the address of the called station and the information digitizing rate of the calling station. The packet may also include the address of the calling station. The called station selects the lower of the information digitizing rates of the calling and called stations or the information digitizing rates of both stations if such rates are the same. The called station sends to the calling station a call request response package including the selected information digitizing rate. The call request response packet may include the addresses of the calling and called stations. The calling station selects the lower of the information digitizing rates of the calling and called stations or the information digitizing rates of both stations if both rates are the same. The information digitizing rates of the calling and called stations may be the voice digitizing rates of both stations. When the calling station selects the information digitizing rate, the calling and called stations send and receive information packets at such information digitizing rates.

The exchange includes a real-time product inventory database that maintains real-time product inventory information for the retail locations of the merchants. The product inventory database includes ingest engines that permit an interface to different inventory transfer protocols so that product inventory information can be maintained across disparate inventory systems maintained by different merchants.

Method And Apparatus For Optimization Of Collimator Angles In Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy Treatment

US Patent:
7015490, Mar 21, 2006
Filed:
Aug 11, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/915968
Inventors:
Duan Qiang Wang - Carmel IN, US
Robert W. Hill - Washington PA, US
Simon Chun-pin Lam - Phoenix AZ, US
Assignee:
Nomos Corporation - Cranberry Township PA
International Classification:
A61N 5/10
G21K 1/02
US Classification:
2505051, 378150
Abstract:
A method and apparatus to determine an optimum collimator angle of a multi-leaf collimator having an opening and multiple leaf pairs for closing portions of the opening to form a radiation beam arrangement having multiple radiation beam segments. The method and apparatus include application of a cost function to determine a collimator angle which provides for delivery efficiency and target conformity. The user can preferentially either selectively enhance delivery efficiency of the radiation beam arrangement, reducing a number of radiation beam segments and reducing a number of radiation beam monitor units required for delivery of the desired prescription, or selectively enhance conformity of the radiation beam arrangement to a target shape. The optimum collimator angle is then used for delivery of an optimized radiation beam arrangement to a patient by a radiation delivery device.

Elective Collection And Banking Of Autologous Peripheral Blood Stem Cells

US Patent:
2006023, Oct 19, 2006
Filed:
Mar 30, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/396238
Inventors:
Thomas Hirose - Huntington Beach CA, US
Simon Lam - Agoura Hills CA, US
Rubio Punzalan - Torrance CA, US
Denis Rodgerson - Malibu CA, US
Assignee:
NEOSTEM, Inc. - Agoura Hills CA
International Classification:
A61K 35/12
C12N 5/08
US Classification:
424093700, 435366000
Abstract:
An elective healthcare insurance model using an individual's own peripheral blood stem cells for the individual's future healthcare uses. An individual can elect to have his or her own stem cells collected, processed and preserved, while he or she is in healthy or “pre-disease” state, for future distribution for his or her healthcare needs. The process includes methods of collection, processing, preservation and distribution of adult (including pediatric) peripheral blood stem cells during non-diseased state. The stem cells collected will contain adequate dosage amounts, for one or more transplantations immediately when needed by the individual for future healthcare treatments. The collected adult or non-neonate child peripheral blood stem cells can be aliquoted into defined dosage fractions before cryopreservation so that cells can be withdrawn from storage without the necessity of thawing all of the collected cells.

System And Method For Improving Protocol Delay Tolerances

US Patent:
5949861, Sep 7, 1999
Filed:
Apr 13, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/059635
Inventors:
Christina K. Chan - Northridge CA
Hongsoon H. Kwon - Downey CA
Simon S. Lam - Agoura Hills CA
William A. Larson - Calabasas CA
Assignee:
Northern Telecom Limited - Montreal
International Classification:
H04M 1100
US Classification:
37910017
Abstract:
A system and method for extending the time period at which a facsimile response signal can be received before a time-out occurs without altering the underlying transmission protocol. The disclosed system and method determines a response time before which a response signal must be received by a transmitting facsimile station in order to avoid a time-out event. Before the response time arrives, the disclosed system and method generates and transmits a delay signal to the transmitting facsimile station which does not substantively interfere with ongoing communications. Instead, the delay signal causes the transmitting facsimile station to tickle an internal time-out counter which results in an extension of the response signal delay tolerance. Delay signal frames can be transmitted repeatedly to accommodate any desired time-out period.

System And Method For Reliability Transporting Aural Information Across A Network

US Patent:
6298057, Oct 2, 2001
Filed:
Apr 19, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/634927
Inventors:
Kenneth R. Guy - Thousand Oaks CA
Jaswant R. Jain - Chatsworth CA
Ishwar V. Jasuja - Simi Valley CA
Michael W. Johnson - Petaluma CA
Albert Juandy - Petaluma CA
Simon S. Lam - Agoura Hills CA
Anthony Y. Lee - Northridge CA
David Misunas - Thousand Oaks CA
Jacques A. Roth - San Rafael CA
Assignee:
Nortel Networks Limited - St. Laurent
International Classification:
H04L 1228
H04J 316
G06F 1100
US Classification:
370389
Abstract:
A system and method for transparently transmitting aural signals across a wide area network (WAN). The system of present invention is connected to one or more of a private branch exchange, a key telephone system, a telephone, a facsimile machine, and a modem, for example. In the case of voice transmission, a user places a telephone call using the same procedure that is used when placing a telephone call over a conventional public switched network. The aural signals are translated into a format that is compatible with the local area network (LAN) and the translated signals are transmitted to a router or a switch that connects the LAN to the WAN. The data is transmitted across the WAN to a router or switch coupled to a second LAN. The data is then sent to a destination central site unit or PC which translates the signal into a format that is compatible with the telephone system connected thereto. The present invention provides a voice quality that approaches, equals, or exceeds the voice quality of conventional telephone switched networks.
