Abstract:
The present application is directed to implants with inner and outer members positioned in a telescoping arrangement. The members may include helical supports to selectively adjust the height of the implant. The helical supports offer a large contact surface to prevent inadvertent reduction of the length due to application of a compressive force. In some embodiments, the helical support members may be shaped to facilitate movement of the members to increase the height. The shape may further prevent movement that would decrease the height. Some embodiments may also prevent relative rotation of the members. In use, the inner and outer members are moved apart to adjust the height of the implant to space apart the vertebral members. The members may further be constructed to prevent the members from moving together after insertion between the vertebral members.

Abstract:
One embodiment of the present application includes: performing a medical procedure on a segment of a patient's spine. This segment includes two vertebrae each in contact with a spinal disk positioned in an intervertebral disk space. A passage is formed that follows a pathway through the vertebrae and the intervertebral disk space. This passage extends from an extradiscal opening through one of the vertebrae along a path that turns to change direction. The tubular device is inserted in the passage and extends through the intervertebral disk space. A fluid material is introduced into the tubular device to at least partially fill it to provide a spinal prosthetic structure. An interspinous spacer system includes a core configured to fit between adjacent spinous processes, a first fork movable relative to the core from a non-use position to an in-use position, and second fork. When in the in-use position, the first fork extends outwardly from a first side of the core and bounds an opening. The second fork extends outwardly from a second side of the core, opposite the first side, and bounds the opening. Third and fourth forks extend outwardly from the first and second sides of the core respectively and form a second opening. The second, third, and fourth forks are affixed relative to the core and relative to each other. The first fork is inserted between spinous processes in the non-use position to avoid damage to a superspinous ligament adjacent the spinous processes.
