A low profile roller includes a wheel mounted on a hollow hub and having a roller ball mounted within the hollow hub. The roller is configured to function in a first, low profile operating mode when the roller ball is in contact with a support surface and in a second, high profile mode when the wheel is in contact with the support surface. A base for a movable support platform includes a base frame and a pivot sleeve rotatably mounted to the base frame and non-rotatably mounted to an arm connected to the hub. The pivot sleeve is configured to rotate the low profile roller from between the first mode and the second mode. A butterfly foot pedal is operably connected to the pivot sleeve.

Patient Transfer Device

US Patent:
2006009, May 4, 2006
Filed:
Jun 13, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/151064
Inventors:
Martin Stryker - Kalamazoo MI, US
Jeffrey Lewandowski - Delton MI, US
James Thwaites - Delton MI, US
Richard Bartow - Battle Creek MI, US
Scott Smieja - Ripon WI, US
David Marcusen - Appleton WI, US
International Classification:
A61G 7/10
US Classification:
00508110R, 005086100
Abstract:
A patient transfer device includes a base assembly movable in forward and lateral directions. A power train is mounted within the base assembly, and is connected to a clamping and strap assembly. A power and switching system is in electrical communication with the power train. A retractor bar carries one or more clamping devices that are releasably attachable to a sheet. The clamping devices include a clamp handle pivotally connected to a clamp base and a clamp arm eccentrically pivotally connected to the clamp handle. The clamping and strap assembly is supported on the base assembly by a vertical adjustment assembly that includes a positioning mechanism for releasably locking the clamping and strap assembly at one of a plurality of vertical positions. An attendant can stand on the base assembly to act as a counterbalance to a patient's weight.

Richard J. Bartow - Battle Creek MI, US
Scott Smieja - Ripon WI, US
David P. Marcusen - Appleton WI, US
Assignee:
Stryker Corporation - Kalamazoo MI
International Classification:
A61G 7/10
A61G 1/003
A47C 21/06
A61G 5/00
A61G 7/053
A44B 21/00
A41F 1/00
B42F 1/00
US Classification:
5 841, 5 881, 5 811 HS, 5 811 R, 24462
Abstract:
A retractor assembly for engaging a sheet on which a patient is disposed includes a transverse member and a pair of tethers coupled to the transverse member and extending from the transverse member for coupling to a winding assembly. A pair of sheet clamps are mounted to the transverse member, which are spaced apart along the longitudinal axis of the transverse member in a fixed spaced relationship for engaging a sheet at two points spaced along the longitudinal axis. The transverse member maintains the sheet clamps in their fixed spaced relationship whereby the sheet clamps resist inward migration toward each other when being used to handle a patient on a sheet.

Single Step Wheelchair Transfer Device

US Patent:
7735165, Jun 15, 2010
Filed:
Nov 27, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/604584
Inventors:
Martin W. Stryker - Kalamazoo MI, US
Jeffrey L. Lewandowski - Delton MI, US
James T. Thwaites - Delton MI, US
Cory P. Herbst - Shelbyville MI, US
Assignee:
Stryker Corporation - Kalamazoo MI
International Classification:
A61G 7/015
A61G 7/10
US Classification:
5 861, 5616, 5617
Abstract:
A wheelchair transfer device is configured for moving an invalid patient from a flat surface to a seated position for transport in the seated position on the transfer device. The transfer device includes a rolling base supported by casters and convertible low profile rollers that are configured to fit under the base of a hospital bed and convert to a larger diameter wheel without altering the height of the transfer device. The transfer device includes a leg portion, a torso portion and a seat portion configured to be coplanar for adaptation to a hospital bed, so that an invalid patient can, with assistance, roll onto the device. The seat portion can then be raised against the patient's buttocks, generally perpendicular to the leg and torso portions, and the whole assembly can then be rotated to a vertical position, with the seat portion supporting the weight of the patient.

Foldable Flywheel Mechanism To Facilitate Energy Generation

US Patent:
2019017, Jun 13, 2019
Filed:
Nov 28, 2018
Appl. No.:
16/202739
Inventors:
Martin W. Stryker - , US
James T. Thwaites - Delton MI, US
Scott J. Davis - Kalamazoo MI, US
International Classification:
F16F 15/31
F16F 15/315
F03G 3/08
Abstract:
A utility power generator includes a flywheel that includes an outer perimeter that is operable between a planar position and a plurality of sinusoidal positions. A hub is concentrically positioned within the flywheel, wherein the hub defines a rotational axis of the flywheel. An axial fitting traverses relative to the hub and along the rotational axis in an axial direction as the flywheel operates between the planar position and the plurality of sinusoidal positions. The flywheel, the hub and the axial fitting are rotationally linked to synchronously rotate about the rotational axis. Rotation of the flywheel biases the axial fitting toward the planar position. A transfer fitting is coupled to at least one of the flywheel, the hub and the transfer fitting. Rotation of the flywheel about the rotational axis operates the transfer fitting to operate a tool.
