Child-Resistant Container

US Patent:
4427124, Jan 24, 1984
Filed:
Jun 8, 1977
Appl. No.:
5/804592
Inventors:
Francis G. Marshall - Meriden CT
Edward F. Klimeck - Waterbury CT
Assignee:
Eyelet Specialty Co., Inc. - Wallingford CT
International Classification:
B65D 5502
US Classification:
215216
Abstract:
The invention contemplates an essentially two-piece container, comprising a container-body member and a removable screw-cap closure member incorporating a child-resistant safety-locking feature in addition to providing threaded closure and sealing of the container member. The body member has ratchet-tooth formations integrally formed therewith, said formations coacting with ratchet-tooth formations on the inner surface of the closure member, when the closure member is threaded to the container member. The body-member tooth formations are covered by the closure-member skirt when in ratchet-locked position, but the body-member tooth formations are integral with a local resiliently compliant region of the body member whereby the ratchet-locked engagement may be released upon correctly localized inward squeezing of the compliant region.

Imaging X-Ray Spectrometer

US Patent:
4472728, Sep 18, 1984
Filed:
Feb 19, 1982
Appl. No.:
6/350477
Inventors:
Patrick A. Grant - Orem UT
John W. Jackson - Mt. Rainer MD
George E. Alcorn - Reston VA
Francis E. Marshall - Lanham MD
Assignee:
The United States of America as represented by the Administrator of the
National Aeronautics and Space Administration - Washington DC
International Classification:
H01L 2714
US Classification:
357 30
Abstract:
An X-ray spectrometer for providing imaging and energy resolution of an X-ray source comprised of a thick silicon wafer (10) having an embedded matrix or grid of aluminum completely through the wafer fabricated, for example, by thermal migration. The aluminum matrix defines the walls (16, 18) of a rectangular array of silicon X-ray detector cells (14) or "pixels". A thermally diffused aluminum electrode (20) is also formed centrally through each of the silicon cells (14) with biasing means (22, 26, 28) being connected to the aluminum cell walls (16, 18) and the centralized aluminum electrode (20) for causing lateral charge carrier depletion between the cell walls so that incident X-ray energy causes a photo-electric reaction within the silicon producing collectible charge carriers in the form of electrons which are collected and used for imaging.

Pen-Size Flashlight

US Patent:
5070438, Dec 3, 1991
Filed:
Mar 21, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/496682
Inventors:
Francis G. Marshall - Meriden CT
Assignee:
The Bridgeport Metal Goods Mfg. Co. - Bridgeport CT
International Classification:
F21L 700
US Classification:
362206
Abstract:
A pen-size flashlight comprises a tubular body receiving two size AAAA batteries and having a bulb and bulb contact assembly mounted on the forward end and a switch assembly driven by a rotatable cap on the rear end. The bulb contact assembly is removable for changing batteries and includes a bulb holder threadably secured to the tubular body and mounting a bulb, an insulator mounted to the bulb holder and defining an opening extending from the bulb tip terminal toward the front battery terminal and a dual diameter coil spring extending through the insulator to electrically connect the bulb tip terminal and the front battery terminal. The switch assembly includes a switch housing defining a threaded opening extending rearwardly from the rear battery terminal and a switch plunger threadably received in the switch housing opening. A switch driver sleeve is mounted for rotation about the switch housing and a cap is fitted over the switch driver sleeve and switch assembly. The switch driver sleeve engages the switch plunger such that rotation of the cap relative to the tubular body rotates the switch plunger in and out of contact with the rear battery terminal to turn the flashlight ON and OFF.

Electric Power Outlet

US Patent:
5224879, Jul 6, 1993
Filed:
Oct 7, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/957141
Inventors:
Brian G. Mullins - Danbury CT
Ali El-Haj - Trumbull CT
Francis G. Marshall - Meriden CT
Assignee:
Casco Products Corporation - Bridgeport CT
International Classification:
H01R 2500
US Classification:
439651
Abstract:
A panel-mounted electrical power outlet receptacle for receiving a power plug to transfer current from circuitry located at the rear of the panel. The receptacle has a molded plastic body of tubular open-ended configuration, with an integral transverse wall intermediate its ends. A first double-ended metal terminal post is molded into said transverse wall and projects into both open ends of the body, the ends of the post being respectively receivable in sockets of cooperable separable fittings that are receivable in the body ends. There is a second double-ended metal terminal post in the form of a stamping, which is carried by the transverse wall of the plastic body. It also projects into both open ends of the body. The transverse body wall has an opening through which the second terminal post extends, and there is a snap locking construction on the plastic body and the second terminal post, which is activated upon insertion of the second terminal post in the wall opening.

Rechargeable Battery Pack And Combination Thereof With Lantern

US Patent:
4382220, May 3, 1983
Filed:
Jul 20, 1981
Appl. No.:
6/284989
Inventors:
Francis G. Marshall - Meriden CT
Ralph F. Moore - Greenwich CT
Assignee:
The Bridgeport Metal Goods Mfg. Co. - Bridgeport CT
International Classification:
H02J 700
US Classification:
320 2
Abstract:
A rechargeable battery pack has a rectangular case formed in two box halves secured together at a seam about the top, side and bottom panels thereof, two rechargeable batteries positioned in the case between the bottom and side panels and front and rear panels and cross-ribs extending inwardly from the interior surfaces of the front and rear panels, a transformer for charging the batteries positioned between the front and rear panels by U-shaped flanges extending inwardly from the interior surfaces thereof, two terminals extending through openings in the top of the case formed at the seam and spring biased outwardly by coil springs deployed between the top panel and the heads of the terminals, two secondary terminals mounted within the case and including flexible spring blades self-biased into contact with the feet of the terminals within the case, and wiring connecting the batteries with the secondary terminals for current draw and with the transformer for recharging including a line cord from the transformer through an opening found at the case seam to a plug. When the batteries are of the lead acid type, the flexible spring blades have a free position leaving an air gap relative to the terminal feet, thereby minimizing the possibility of shorting the batteries. The rechargeable battery pack is used in combination with a lantern which has a rib structure accommodating both a standard lantern battery and the rechargeable battery pack, which has different dimensions.

Battery Powered Auxiliary Lighting Fixture With A Timer

US Patent:
4623957, Nov 18, 1986
Filed:
Oct 19, 1984
Appl. No.:
6/662575
Inventors:
Ralph F. Moore - Greenwich CT
Francis G. Marshall - Cheshire CT
Assignee:
The Bridgeport Metal Goods Manufacturing Company - Bridgeport CT
International Classification:
F21L 700
US Classification:
362200
Abstract:
An auxiliary lighting fixture comprises a base adapted to be hung on a wall via a statistical loop fastener and receiving batteries, and a housing releasably secured on the base and having a light bulb, reflector and lens mounted thereon. The light bulb is mounted by a clip with a hook engaging the bulb's flanged base. A circuit, including a timer and control switches, is mounted to the housing and electrically connected to the batteries by contact between metal strips in both the base and housing. Upon selection of the timed mode, the bulb operates for a timer interval of 30-45 seconds, thereby preventing accidental battery depletion. ON and OFF switches are provided for untimed operation, and the OFF switch overrides the timer.
