Use Of Electrically Conductive Materials For Electrophysiology

US Patent:
2016022, Aug 4, 2016
Filed:
Sep 16, 2014
Appl. No.:
15/022010
Inventors:
- Houston TX, US
Colin Christopher Young - Houston TX, US
Mark David McCauley - Houston TX, US
International Classification:
A61N 1/05
A61B 17/06
Abstract:
Some embodiments of the present disclosure pertain to methods of improving electrical conduction across an impaired region of a tissue (e.g., myocardial tissue) by applying an electrically conductive material (e.g., carbon nanotube fibers) across the impaired region. The electrically conductive materials can become associated with non-impaired regions of the tissue on opposite sides of the impaired region by suturing. Such methods can also be utilized to treat or prevent cardiac arrhythmia in a subject (e.g., ventricular arrhythmia). Additional embodiments of the present disclosure pertain to electrical wirings that include carbon nanotubes, such as carbon nanotube fibers. Such electrical wirings can be used to transmit electrical signals to a tissue or sense electrical signals from the tissue. In some embodiments, the present disclosure also pertains to suture threads that include carbon nanotubes, such as carbon nanotube fibers.

Systems And Methods For Attaching Flexible Conductive Filaments, Networks, Or Patches To Tissue Via Catheter Delivery

US Patent:
2017005, Mar 2, 2017
Filed:
Feb 20, 2015
Appl. No.:
15/120291
Inventors:
- Houston TX, US
Matteo Pasquali - Houston TX, US
Mehdi Razavi - Houston TX, US
Mark D. McCauley - Houston TX, US
Colin C. Young - Houston TX, US
Assignee:
William Marsh Rice University - Houston TX
Baylor College of Medicine - Houston TX
Texas Heart Institute - Houston TX
International Classification:
A61N 1/05
Abstract:
Systems and methods for deploying and securing conductive materials to a region of tissue may utilize a catheter. The catheter may provide a tip with one or more detachable sections or may provide an adjustable opening. A lumen of the catheter may provide a conductive material, such as a filament, fiber, network or patch of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) or carbon nanofibers (CNFs). In some embodiments, the conductive materials may be coupled to securing mechanisms, such as screws, clips, anchors, alligator clips, or anchors with barbs, which can be actuated to attach the conductive materials to desired regions of tissue. In some embodiments, the catheter may provide a needle tip that allows the conductive material to be embedded into desired regions of tissue by inserting the needle into the tissue.

US Classification:
435 71, 435 793, 435 794, 435971, 435975, 436518, 436543, 436547, 436548, 436 86, 436815, 5303881
Abstract:
Hybridoma cell lines have been generated which produce and secrete monoclonal antibodies which selectively bind to 4,4â-dinitrocarbanilide (DNC), the active agent of nicarbazin. These hybridomas may be obtained by using as an immunization agent or immunogen, p-nitroaniline which has been conjugated to an immunogenic carrier. DNC in biological samples may be detected and quantified by contacting the sample with the antibodies to form a DNC/antibody immunocomplex when DNC is present, which immunocomplex may then be detected. The monoclonal antibodies also may be incorporated into kits for the detection and quantification of DNC and/or nicarbazin.

Micro-Cold Atmospheric Plasma Device

US Patent:
2018027, Sep 27, 2018
Filed:
Mar 26, 2018
Appl. No.:
15/936290
Inventors:
Michael Keidar - Washington DC, US
Zitong Chen - Ashburn VA, US
Jonathan Sherman - Potomac MD, US
Colin N. Young - Alexandria VA, US
Hayk Simonyan - Washington DC, US
Jerome Canady - Lakeland FL, US
International Classification:
A61B 18/04
Abstract:
A micro-sized CAP (μCAP) employed to target glioblastoma tumors in the murine brain. Various plasma diagnostic techniques were applied to evaluate the physics of helium μCAP such as electron density, discharge voltage, and optical emission spectroscopy. The direct and indirect effects of μCAP on glioblastoma (U87MG-RedFluc) cancer cells in vitro were investigated and indicate that μCAP-generated short- and long-lived species and radicals [i.e. hydroxyl radical (OH), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), nitrite (NO2-), et al] with increasing tumor cell death in a dose-dependent fashion. Translation of these findings to an in vivo setting demonstrates that intracranial μCAP is effective at preventing glioblastoma tumor growth in the mouse brain. The μCAP device can be safely used in mice, resulting in suppression of tumor growth. These initial observations establish the μCAP device as a potentially useful ablative therapy tool in the treatment of glioblastoma.
