Handling And Deploying Radioactive Sources

US Patent:
5342158, Aug 30, 1994
Filed:
Jan 27, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/009800
Inventors:
Chris A. Isaacson - Poway CA
Assignee:
Gamma-Metrics - San Diego CA
International Classification:
B65G 6500
G21C 1900
US Classification:
414146
Abstract:
A radioactive source is mounted at one end of a rod and a ball-shaped coupler is disposed at the other end of the rod. An apparatus for handling a plurality of radioactive sources respectively mounted at one end of a plurality of rods having a ball-shaped coupler disposed at the other end of each said rod includes a shaft having a canister at one end of the shaft and a clip at another position on the shaft. The canister defines a plurality of compartments for respectively receiving a plurality of said mounted radioactive sources. The clip defines a plurality of chambers for respectively receiving a plurality of the ball-shaped couplers. The rods are flexible and semirigid and the distance between the canister and the clip is such in relation to the distance between the radioactive source and the ball-shaped coupler on the rod that the rods must be flexed after the radioactive sources are received in the compartments in order to insert the ball-shaped couplers into the chambers of the clip. The shaft also is flexible and semirigid so that both the rods and the shaft will bend when the canister is inserted through a curved passageway leading to a given location in a shielded enclosure. An apparatus for handling a single radioactive source includes a rod having the radioactive source mounted at one end of the rod; a ball-shaped coupler disposed at the other end of the rod; and a shaft having a clip at one end of the shaft defining a chamber for receiving the ball-shaped coupler.

Magnetically Shielded Room With Sliding Door

US Patent:
5335464, Aug 9, 1994
Filed:
Nov 14, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/792283
Inventors:
Frank W. Vanesky - Vista CA
Chris A. Isaacson - Poway CA
Bert M. Christie - Alta Loma CA
Assignee:
Biomagnetic Technologies, Inc. - San Diego CA
International Classification:
H05K 900
US Classification:
521731
Abstract:
A magnetically shielded room has four walls, a floor, and a ceiling. One of the walls has a doorway therethrough, and a sliding door is provided to close the doorway. Each of the four walls, the floor, the ceiling, and the door is formed of at least one layer of electrically conductive material to exclude radio frequency energy from the interior of the room, and at least one layer of high magnetic permeability material to exclude magnetic fields from the interior of the room. Preferably, at least the wall with the doorway therethrough and the door are formed of two electrically conductive plates and a layer of high magnetic permeability material on each of the plates, the electrically conductive plates of the wall being spaced sufficiently far apart that the sliding door slides into the space between the plates when the doorway is opened. In this preferred approach, the door is mechanically, electrically, and magnetically sealed to the doorway in the wall by inflating bladders in the door that force the electrically conductive plates of the door against the respective plates of the wall, and the high magnetic permeability layers of the door against the respective layers of the wall.

Architectual Star Field

US Patent:
6840662, Jan 11, 2005
Filed:
Aug 8, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/213521
Inventors:
Chris Isaacson - Encinitas CA, US
Lisa Isaacson - Encinitas CA, US
International Classification:
F21V 704
US Classification:
362555, 362552, 362554, 362565, 362576, 362581
Abstract:
A decorative dome with controlled light enhancement consisting of a substantially concave structure having opposed front and rear faces and a plurality of apertures extending therethrough, for receipt of a plurality of optical fibers, extending between the interior surface of the concave structure, to a plurality of light emitting diodes (“LEDs”) mounted in a junction box mounted on the outer periphery of the rear face of the concave structure. The junction box also contains a control circuit for varying the duration and intensity of the plurality of LEDs, with the junction box constructed so as to dissipate heat generated by the LEDs. The LED's direct light into the receiving end of each said optical fibers such that light from the respective LEDs are directed through the optical fibers and from the emitting ends of the optical fibers at the front face of the concave structure. The plurality of apertures on the front face of the concave structure are arranged in a selected patent discernable by a viewer.

Modularized Assembly For Bulk Material Analyzer

US Patent:
RE36943, Nov 7, 2000
Filed:
Mar 3, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/810486
Inventors:
Thomas Atwell - Aptos CA
Chris A. Isaacson - Cardiff By The Sea CA
Andrew H. Smith - Escondido CA
James P. Stronski - San Diego CA
Richard E. Ackerman - San Diego CA
Richard L. Conwell - Del Mar CA
Assignee:
Gamma-Metrics - San Diego CA
International Classification:
G01N 2302
G01N 2312
US Classification:
2503581
Abstract:
A bulk material analyzer of the type in which the bulk material is transported through the material analyzer assembly on a conveyor belt between at least one radiation source and at least one radiation detector, includes a plurality of lower and upper modules that contain radiation shielding material and are so shaped as to define a passageway for the conveyor belt between the upper modules and the lower modules when the upper modules are placed on the lower modules. A primary centrally located lower module also includes the radiation sources and a primary centrally located upper module also includes the radiation detectors. Some of the outwardly located modules contain less radiation shielding material. The radiation shielding material includes a plurality of personally portable blocks. The conveyor belt is supported by compressed air passed through central upper wails in the outwardly located lower modules.
